Welcome to the world of LinkedIn. LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network. Globally, there are 250 million members “Linking In”. With LinkedIn becoming more popular every day, Giving Tree is learning to better utilize the site to share our expertise with the non-profit community and to strengthen our individual and collective networks. With seven Giving Tree employees on LinkedIn, we are collectively connected to over 1,000 companies!
LinkedIn is a business-oriented social networking website that was launched in May of 2003. In other words, it is a website used for making professional connections as well as a way to market one’s skills and experience. People who use LinkedIn may be using it to: find jobs and clients; hire or partner with new people; check up on business acquaintances and friends; keep informed of the latest trends in their field; and visibly become active in professional communities.
Nonprofits are using LinkedIn too, as they increasingly understand the benefits to be gained by being a part of this important on-line community. LinkedIn can be a valuable tool for finding volunteers and lay leadership, as well as promoting an organization’s mission.
In my blog series, I hope to help your organization use LinkedIn on a regular basis and to make your individual and company pages more effective. Together, we can build a presence on LinkedIn through completed pages, posting status updates, and much more. Ultimately, my blogs will not just help you and your organization understand LinkedIn, but ensure you are successful on the site.
So, let’s get started. If you aren’t already on LinkedIn, create an account.

Looking forward to Linking In with all of you.
